At 8pm Wednesday evening, MRU18 and 18 Marine 2 with 7 members departed the station with members of Port Penn Volunteer Fire Company to respond to assist Chester County, PA with flood rescues and evacuations. The crews operated in Chester County for 7 hours before returning. Thank you to Po-Mar-Lin Fire Company for their assistance while we were in the area.
While on the way home, units were redirected to Elkton in Cecil County, MD to assist with rescues. Both Good Will and Port Penn’s units responded along with units from Minquas Fire Company #1, Delaware City Volunteer Fire Company, No. 1, Inc., Station 15, Holloway Terrace Fire Co., and Christiana Fire operated at this incident.
While returning from assisting Elkton, units were again dispatched on the road to assist Talleyville Fire Company with significant flooding at Rockland Mills Condo’s. Many of the on the road units made the response.
The final response came as units were getting back into quarters. MRU18 and 18M2 were dispatched to assist Wilmington Fire Department with widespread flooding in the area of Northeast Blvd. The crews from 18M2 and 18M3 (NRS Paddlecraft) performed evacuations, searches, and rescues in the city for approximately 6 hours.
Once clear of the city, the crew members returned to the station to decon and clean equipment and PPE and prepare the apparatus for the next incident.
