On Friday August 7, MRU 18 and 18 Marine 2 started to relocate to the Hockessin area with 7 technicians after flooding was being reported in multiple areas due to a strong storm. The crew was immediately assigned to an incident after going on radio. After almost 8 hours and over 15 responses to vehicles in floodwater, residents trapped in their houses by rising water, and flash flooding, the marine units returned to New Castle. During responses, the crews had to contend with trees and wires across roadways (blocking access) as well as flooded roadways and vehicle abandoned in floodwater that then receded. Friday’s storm was later determined to be an EF 2 tornado that tore through the area.
The marine units from Good Will worked in conjunction with marine units from Port Penn, Delaware City, Minquas of Newport, Christiana, Odessa, Townsend, and Cranston Heights. Fire apparatus resources included Hockessin, Mill Creek, Tallyville, Five Points, Belvedere, Elsmere, and Cranston Heights.
