On Sunday afternoon, rescue boat 18 Marine 1 was alerted to assist Penns Grove on an overturned vessel with a person missing. 18 Marine 1 responded quickly and began a search in the area with Wilmington Fire Marine 8. While searching, Marine 8 returned to Wilmington to get Fireboat 7 and the NCC Dive Team. Deputy 18 assumed the Delaware River Command and coordinated the search effort for the missing boater. Searches were conducted by sea, land, and air for the missing boater. The Delaware State Police Dive Team utilized a sonar unit to check sever hundred feet around the victims last known location with negative results. The search operation lasted just under 5 hours before the search was called off. Later that night, the body of the missing boater was recovered by Penns Grove fire department on the shore line.
Responding agencies and units included Good Will 18 Marine 1, Wilmington Marine 8 and Fireboat 7, Delaware City Fireboat 15, Holloway Terrace Special Operations Dive Team Units, Delaware Dept of Natural Resources Bravo and Yankee rescue boats, USCG Small Rescue Boat and Helecopter, New Jersey State Police rescue boats, Delaware State Police Trooper 4, and multiple local agencies.
