The fire company placed new Holmatro vehicle rescue tools in service this evening. The tools, used to cut tapped people out of vehicles, replaced existing Holmatro rescue tools that were 25 years old. The new tools are three generations newer and have three times the cutting and spreading strength to keep up with new technology in vehicles. Additionally, they feature a redesigned single line hose that will make maneuvering around the rescue incident much easier. The tools were purchased from ESI Equipment in PA who also provided custom tool mounting and training with the new equipment. The purchase came as an almost $50,000 upgrade expense to the company. The tools are in service on Engine 18-6 which is designted as the rescue engine. Along with the new tools, the remining power units and tools on Engine 18 and Ambulance 18 were retrofitted with the single line hoses to make all of the tools compatable.
