Wednesday, November 4, 2009 - During Good-Will's Open House this year, the public witnessed a different type of demonstration. Immediately following recognition of the Poster and Essay Winners, a live burn was conducted in our parking lot. The burn was completed in 2 identical rooms built side by side with common furniture items found in residential living rooms. The room on the left was not sprinklered while the room on the right had a working residential sprinkler system installed. The demonstration illustrated to the public the necessity of having working smoke detectors in the home, the effectiveness of a residential fire sprinkler system, and how rapidly a fire can spread. The demonstration lasted just over 5 minutes from the time the fire was started to when the room reached flash over.
